Heads Up!

A common sight around Toronto has been icicles hanging precariously from rooftops where the sun has melted the snow a bit but not enough for it to totally run off. In some places it can be quite dangerous and it looks as if one would have to watch out when approaching the porch of this house which is located a couple of blocks away from yesterday's house.

Snow and blue sky look beautiful together.
No signs of snow around here yet. ;-)

Oh yeah! I've heard reports of injuries even here in NoVA. You gotta watch where you're going, just like your mom said. :-)

Yes, that does look a bit dangerous.

We actually rake our roof to prevent these hangers.

What a gorgeous house! Icicles can be a little scary. When kids we'd break them off and eat 'em!

Glad to see winter is retreating a little.

Ah but they are so pretty!

And that's a Camry. So that's my house. :-)

(No, I don't drive a Camry, only when I'm in the USA).

I was once stabbed by a falling icicle - luckily it was small one and I was well padded!

I'm mindful to keep my eyes up at buildings close to the street for that very reason, especially when you have a thaw. We've had some formidable icicles this year.

If I were them I would run after closing the door.

Luckily I've never been attacked by an icicle. But I have heard of it happening. Be careful!

Those icicles can be dangerous for those under them. They can also be a sign of ice dams that rot roofs, and are a sign of poor or failed insulation in the attic. Roofs need to be kept cold in the winter.

Icicles are things that northerners take for granted but shouldn't. They can be very dangerous when they break off.
