The May theme for the City Daily Photo Blogs is "Squares" and I thought that this sculpture fits that perfectly. It is found on one of the walls near an entrance into the Medical Science Building at U of Toronto and was designed by artist Robert Downing who was also the designer of the wonderful concrete facade of this building which is an example of Brutalist design at its best. The sculpture was created in 1967 during the construction of the building. I'll show you a section of the building's facade tomorrow.

It makes me wonder if he planned this installation or if he came to him as construction was going on. I like it.
That's a heck of a pile!
Perfect! It's more than perfect Pat, it's blooming brilliant! You couldn't get a better and more interesting image for the theme, nice work!

Nice entry, does remind me of Berlin, but there the squares are on the ground
Great sculpture, must be very tempting for youngsters to climb up. Perfect choice for theme day.
That's a humongous amount of squares for today's theme. Well done!

Perfect for the meme and just plain interesting.
You found a good one for Theme Day! It's very interesting too. I wonder how many squares are in there.
Splendid choice, RedPat!
You have a winner here, Jan, er, RedPat. However much I DON'T like the brutalism style, I DO love this sculpture.

I like brutalism. these squares, though are a bit messy for me. I feel a need to tidy them up :)
Nice choice for theme day.
This is so cool! You just reminded me of squares in Halifax at a museum!
What a great entry on the theme. This is really cool!
It certainly works perfectly for your City Daily theme. And is a fascinating photo.
PS: I'm sorry you had trouble commenting on my blog. Typepad (my blog platform) was hit with an awful cyber attack last week and they are still recovering -- tweaking things. Hopefully all is well now.
Thousands of square ;)
Great choice for this theme!
