You can still find brick roads scattered about the city but most of the remaining ones are found on side streets such as this one in the Forest Hill neighbourhood where there are actually several still going strong. One theory I found for this one remaining is that it is on a hill and the brick edges provide some traction in the winter. Often the bricks are laid lengthwise but here the ends of the bricks are up top.
City Daily Photo bloggers post photographs on a theme on the first day of each month. On
February 1, they will address this intriguing question: If you had to leave forever the city
from which you usually post, what would you miss most?
Nice!
ReplyDeleteI have a sudden urge to watch The Wizard of Oz....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, always a treat to find!
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I've ever paid too much attention to how the bricks are laid, but now that you point it out, this is quite different. We have loads of cobblestone streets here. I feel sorry for the people who live on them though, it's so loud when cars drive past.
ReplyDeleteAn unusual and very nice color for a road...
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up in Illinois, our town had many brick roads and I think all of them have been covered up with black-top now. I can still hear the sound of the tires rolling over the bricks or ones shoe walking across them. I loved that sound.
ReplyDeletevery interesting! i know they can be rough going, at times, but sure look pretty!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a red brick road in years, but I love them. Though not very smooth they are attractive. That neighborhood looks very elegant!
ReplyDeleteMust have taken quite a while to lay this road. . . brick by brick by solitary brick. :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever actually seen a brick road before. We have setts and cobbles but I'm not aware of brick.
ReplyDeleteNice perspective and angle viewing these bricks. I wonder if salt ruins them in the winter.
ReplyDeletebrick is a good quality material..
ReplyDeleteI love the look of brick roads, but they can be rough!
ReplyDeleteThey really are quite rare here too. You sometimes see it on a driveway.
ReplyDeleteAgain you make me nostalgic for the East with her Belgian Block and brick streets! Just a lovely capture

ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely, RedPat.
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderfully sweeping view!
ReplyDeleteFabulous and wonderful angle!
ReplyDeleteBrick on the roads seems to be de rigueur in a few of the towns north of Toronto: Newmarket, Markham...and probably a few other places that I cannot think of at the moment. :)
