I spotted this wonderful sculpture of St Michael on the front of St Michael & All Angels Anglican Church on St Clair Ave W and thought it was quite beautifully done. The congregation began in 1909 and the present building was finished in 1916 and it is a lovely church but unfortunately there is a lot of street furniture and traffic surrounding it so it is difficult to get a good shot of the whole church.

Deligthfully graphic shot. Stern angel! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt does look very elegant!
ReplyDeleteThat sculpture is great and I like that it's building right into the wall of the church.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful archangel!
ReplyDeleteHe looks so sad.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly got a great shot of the sculpture! St. Michael doth appear to be a bit downcast. Probably from watching the antics of humans on earth...
ReplyDeleteAn angel watching down on us!
ReplyDeleteLove the relief against that brick background. An angel with a sword and shield is not something you see every day!
ReplyDeleteHe looks quite stern.
ReplyDeleteAngels have swords and shields? Not exactly the way picture heaven.
ReplyDeleteStrong image.
ReplyDeletewhat a moving piece of art ... such a great piece. ( :
ReplyDeleteBeautiful angel.
ReplyDeleteVery modern sculpture
ReplyDeleteThis sculpture is well done!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully crafted sculpture Pat, an impressive sight to behold :)
ReplyDeleteIndeed it's quite marvelous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful design !!
ReplyDeleteHe does look very stern, but in the Bible the angel Michael did have a tough job. I remember one verse talks about him "contending with the devil" over the body of Moses, and I see another in Revelation that talks about Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon and his angels.
ReplyDeleteIt has a certain Deco feel to it.
