Moved

This lone building is all that is left of the huge Kodak facility that was in the Mount Dennis neighborhood and which employed a large part of the local population. The facility closed in 2005 and this building which was constructed in 1939 managed to survive demolition because of pressure from the community. It had been the social hub for the employees as it housed the cafeteria and games rooms and was used for a ll the Christmas parties, etc. The grounds are to become a turning point for the new Eglinton Crosstown LRT and so 2 weeks ago this 11,000 sq ft building was moved 200 ft and a new foundation is to be built and then the building moves back and becomes the new station for the LRT. During the move seating was erected and hundreds of people came to watch as it moved 8 inches/minute!

What a move! At a snail's pace but quite a feat of engineering!

Interesting, and it's putting the old building to a good new use!

I don't think I've ever heard of a building that big being moved. That really is amazing and great that they encouraged people to watch the process.

Nice to see that they decided to save that building. This is a real Kodak moment.

Wow, that shows you the power of public pressure.

I've seen houses moved but never a building. I didn't know it could be done, it sure must have been interesting to see.

I can see that being a real challenge!

Gosh that would have been interesting to see Pat, I don't think I've heard of that being done before. It really is a well loved building. Amazing what people power can do ☺

There was a bad accident here with some earth moving equipment today. The machine fell over and crushed a man's legs.

That is pretty interesting. I might have had to watch it, too!
