Streetcar Maintenance
This pic was taken through the fence on Davenport Rd looking down into the Hillcrest Complex of our TTC (Toronto Transit Commission). This is the transit commission's largest facility and it is where the maintenance of most of its surface vehicles takes place. Here we are looking into the addition that was added to one of the shop buildings to accommodate the longer streetcars. You can see the pits that run under where the cars stop so that workers can get in to the bottom of them to do their work. It was break time for one guy!

I love this peek inside. It reminded me of the place my dad used to buy gas when I was a little kid. The garage had one of those pits so it was easier for the mechanic to work on cars. I was always fascinated by the dark and oily pit.
The pits would make it safer also I'm guessing, less chance of accidents that could crush the mechanics. Pat my blogger doesn't let me revert any more but after a few stressful posts I've got my head around it now and believe me if I can you definitely can. Just keep cool though, that was my problem at first, temper tantrums 😁😁
I believe all of our city buses and LRTs are serviced at the same facility out in the east end.
What a wonderful photo, Pat. At first I thought it was some abstract art piece. I like it a lot, nice when your camera fits through a fence, the things we do for photos. :)
Nice shot.
That's interesting - a modern version of the tramsheds we have in Saltaire. I wonder if, in 100 or so years' time, this facility will be a brewery and bar like ours is?
It seems very easy to forget about the work done in places like this. This one looks clean and ready for action.
Large service halls.
