Watching


 There always seems to be one Canada Goose on guard while the others poke around for food. I always give them a lot of space as they can be quite fierce.

I think most geese do that and they always see you before you see them - and if they take flight they frighten away every bird in the area!

Yes, geese can defend themselves. I have also seen flocks of geese feeding with one or two devoted o watching. I wonder how these work assignments are given?

Having a guard is a very sensible idea, as long as the goose nominated to-guard-and-not-eat changes every meal. Do we know if geese as sociable birds?

same here...there is always one "designated lookout"!! we have so many in this area, most are pretty tame but still keep an eye on things!!
