The Royal Alex

The Royal Alexandra Theatre on King St W was built in 1907 and continues to present theatre productions to this day.  It was purchased by Ed Mirvish (also known as Honest Ed) in1963 and it continues to be run by his son David through Mirvish Productions. The Mirvish family has offered great support to artists of all kinds through the years.

I think I went to The Lion King here back during its first run in Toronto in the 90s.

Nice bit of local history.

I hope that The Royal Alexandra Theatre location doesn't become a glass high rise like the Honest Ed location!

It's a beautiful theatre. It's good that someone is making sure it's still in use.

Once again we have posted similar photos. Your theater is older than mine as the State Theater was built in the mid 1920s as a combination Vaudeville and silent movie theater. It closed in the 1990s, and was reopened in 2020 after a $5m restoration.
