A Wee Beastie


I found this little guy above a window on a restored Victorian house in the Annex area. I am not sure what type of beastie he is (dragon, devil, ??) but I quite like him and it looks as if at some point ivy may have been growing over him but he has now been freed. Wonderful broken brick detail around him too!

    Looks venomous and not a little scary. But being inanimate I think he's not really as fearsome as he looks. So, we can love him for what he is - a very nice sculpture. That too some fine masonry work, too.

    Love the details of his body, looks like a criss/crossed scale of a fish! Funny how we see things differently!

    I do like the broken brick background here. I think it's a dragon, but - like you - I'm not sure.

    Dragon gargoyles are so neat, but I don't often see one on a house. He'd look good with some bright green ivy off-setting the brick red, maybe it will grow back. Nicely seen Red.

    If it's meant to scare evil spirits it probably worked.

    In some mythologies there seems to be such a thing as a dragon carp but I didn't turn up much info and didn't find any images that resemble this thingy.
