Wood Island Lighthouse
I thought that I couldn't end my pics of PEI without showing at least one of the lighthouses from the island so here is the Wood Island Lighthouse which is the second oldest lighthouse on PEI. It was founded on the southernmost tip of the island in 1876 and was manned by a keeper (who would live in the lower addition) until 1989 when it was finally automated. This is also the location of the dock where you can catch a ferry to Nova Scotia, one of other Maritime provinces. PEI (Prince Edward Island) is a beautiful place and well worth a visit!

What is it about a lighthouse that is so appealing? Because they do appeal. It's hard not to like a shot like this!
A classic! Love the whitewashed exterior. :)
Just love light houses, I agree with Paul, they are just so appealing. Love that this is obviously well cared for, despite being automated.
Talk about an icon! Wow. It's beautiful in terms of shape and color...Were you able go get inside for a look around? Looks like it would be a lonely place to live, though.
Wow what an amazing place, and it's a very beautiful lighthouse too! ;-)
ahhh, I haven't visited your posts in a while and knew this was not TO :)
My favourite province is PEI. off to scroll your other pics.
Nice. I just did an (incomplete) lighthouse tour of the Bruce Peninsula, but many of them were inaccessible.
Your PEI pix have been great. I have never been there. It looks much like Maine.
This lighthouse is simply gorgeous. I've enjoyed your series on PEI. Such a beautiful place.
Talk about some quite time. Look at that blue sky.
I really dont know how a wooden light tower house would last withstanding the erosive power of the sea salt.
Classic picture of a beautiful building, would love to visit one day.
What a lovely little lighthouse and photo too!
This lighthouse has a lot of character Pat..Sometimes I think it would be really nice to live in a lighthouse like this, just to get some peace and quiet for a while!
Nice example of one of your lighthouses Red Pat.....is that what you call Clapperboard?
Love lighthouses and this one looks fantastic. Set off perfectly against the deep blue sky.
I am very fond of photographing lighthouses. :) This one has tons pf charm.
