Blending In

I was walking through a local park that has a lot of trees when I heard hammering above me. It took a couple of minutes to locate this Downy Woodpecker which was flitting from side to side in the trees. I never did get a clear shot as it never stayed still for long.

Yes, they can be VERY hard to spot! Easy to hear, though.

That bird blends in with the tree perfectly. It would be very hard to pinpoint.

Nice capture. They're not easy to picture, as they are always on the move.

This must be a Downey female woodpecker as I don't see the red stripe on the head that would indicate it is a male.

I don't remember hearing a woodpecker in Canada and cautiously I say, we don't have them here.

Good protective color. What kind of woodpecker is that?

I could hardly see it! The caracteristic hammering reveals it.

Nature and our critters have a wonderful way of blending in, and it's really important often that they do!
