I love the graphic style of this mural which I found in a laneway just off Ossington Ave. The artist for this one is Peru 143 aka Peru Dyer Jalea who has done a lot of work around the city. The colours really stand out at this time of year when everything is so dull.

Hello

I spotted this mural on Ossington Ave and immediately pulled over. The artist is Hebru Brantley from the USA and it was painted in 2015. I really like his style.

Vandalized Lovbot

I was wandering along Ossington Ave near Queen St W looking for murals and spotted this Lovbot siting up in the corner of a porch. Someone has removed one of its arms but it still was a cheerful sight. You can click on my Lovbot label below for more info on them.

Old Police Station

This Gothic Revival building was constructed in 1890 as the Ossington Avenue Police Station but now houses a day care centre. The building has heritage protection and looks as if it is being well maintained.

Not a Dumping Ground

We are back in the Ossington Ave laneway that has undergone a transformation thanks to the city-sanctioned mural project meant to discourage mindless tagging of garages and buildings. Now all that needs to be done is to stop people from dumping garbage in the lane! The city will pick up mattresses from your streetfront for free so there is no need to dump them like this. The artists for this interesting mural are known as Lexr and Evoke and have been getting international commissions for their work. I like how they have incorporated the windows as eyes here.

Happy Orange Guy

I'm back in the Ossington lane where most of the garages have been painted with murals to discourage tagging - part of a city-santioned program. This piece was done by the artist Rock about whom I could find no information. If you look closely you can see that he has spelled out his name in the shapes while including some whimsical creatures to cheer up the laneway.

A Rose Grows ....

I'm back to the Ossington Ave laneway to another of the murals that were painted on most of the garage doors in order to discourage taggers. This one is by the artist Horus who has done a lot of street art around the city. It would be nice to be greeted by this lovely rose when entering your garage!

Wilderness In The Laneway

I haven't shown anything from the laneway off Ossington Ave for a while so I thought I would present this wonderful piece by artist Li-Hill. It was done during the project to put murals on most of the garages along here in an attempt to stop the tagging and so far that idea is working fairly well.I like how he has even painted the covering on the wire coming down from the left.

Laneway Buddies

I'm back to the same laneway as last Monday - just off Ossington Ave. I love these 2 guys just leaning in the doorway watching the world go by and waiting for something to happen. They look to be a friendly pair! Once again I could find no artist signature on this one.

Lovers

I found this wonderfully executed mural in a laneway off Ossington Ave and thought that the abandoned couch added a bit of 3-D detail to the piece. I have no idea who the artist is but I really like it. And when was the last time you saw saddle shoes?

Running In The Laneway

I stumbled upon a new (to me) laneway, just off Ossington Ave, last week which is lined with murals as the result of a beautification project but I have the feeling that this mural existed before the project. I had no luck finding the artist's name on this one. It's wonderful how they have wrapped the work around the corners of this doorway giving the runner a real sense of movement and a 3-D aspect to the work!

Tobacco Mural

This is a scene that is disappearing from the Ontario landscape as many tobacco farms have switched to other crops as the demand for tobacco declines. This mural was found on the side of the House Of Horvath Cigar Manufacturers on Ossington Ave. With a family tradition of cigar-making since the 30s, the House Of Horvath was established in 1977 and continues strongly to today.

Street Collage

I found this unusual piece of street art on a boarded-up window just off Ossington Ave. Someone has spent hours gathering images (including one of JKF) and small items like dominoes, buttons, dice, fake money, etc and then assembling it all into this collage. Not sure what it means but it was rather intriguing to explore the various little vignettes!

Multiculture in Toronto

Although part of Little Portugal, Ossington Ave has a bit of a Cuban flavor and even has a cigar factory and so from August 18 -21 the "Havana Cultura Toronto" had various events along the strip. During the event this Cuban-inspired mural was painted towards the back wall of yesterday's Levack Block building. The artist is Angel Carrillo who is known for several commissioned murals around town. I am not sure if it is to be permanent or will be painted over for some future mural.

The Ossington Ave Strip

This is a typical building from the Ossington Ave strip (part of little Portugal). The building, called the Levack Block, was built in 1891 and was very run-down until being purchased in 2006 by a brother and sister who fixed parts up and opened a bar, "Levack Block" with cool vintage furnishings, in the corner space. Since then a couple more of the stores have been fixed up and the change-over continues up the block!

"Something Red"

I missed it but the Tom Walmsley play, "Something Red" was playing on Ossington Ave earlier this summer . This street is one of those transitional streets where the rents are cheap and old dives and stores that have been there for years are being replaced by hip restaurants and bars with no signs (you have to be in the know to go there) and other trendy shops. So this type of signage for a play is perfect for the area!

Elegant Days

I discovered this wonderful display of vintage dresses in a store just down the street from the Lakeview restaurant of a few days ago. The deep brown velvet one in the middle first caught my eye (hard to show its details) but I loved all three. Where could I wear them?
