This is a new one for me. When I saw this sign at St Clements Church I had to pull over to see what it is all about. School starts here next week and I guess getting your backpack blessed is supposed to help keep you safe through the school year. It is also combined with a campaign to give backpacks and supplies to kids who are in need.

Household Science
This wonderful Neoclassical building was built in 1912 as the "Department of Household Science" at U of Toronto and remained as that until the 1970s. It was designed by architect George M. Miller and was funded by the Massey family of Massey-Harris fame. Now the south end is used by the Centre for Medieval Sciences of the university and the north end which opens onto Bloor St is leased out for retail space. It is directly across Avenue Rd from the Royal Ontario Museum giving this block quite a stately feel despite the surrounding modern buildings.

Loaded Down
This poor snail not only is carrying his shell but also a little annex that he calls home. I found him along Harbord St and the artist is Smoky whose work I have shown many times.

Downtown Waterfall
I showed you a section of the Cloud Gardens Park located downtown in the financial district on Tuesday and thought I would show a little bit more. The ramps in Tuesday's pic lead off in the upper left side to this waterfall and then into the lovely little green house. A small oasis among the towers.

Mother & Child
I have seen a lot of baby birds like this young sparrow begging to be fed over the last week so I guess these mums have had two batches of babies this summer. They must be exhausted!

Pink In Summer
I showed you this pinkish Forest Hill home in spring when the Magnolia was flowering (HERE) and thought I would show you how pretty it looks in summer. It may not be one of the largest homes in the neighborhood but the landscaping makes it special don't you think?

Back Garden Entrance
I've been roaming through the Forest Hill neighborhood a lot and there are many older estate homes with large grounds. This one has a wall around its back garden and a beautiful gate leading into a large space which even has that fairly substantial greenhouse you can see. Interestingly the front of the house has no fence at all.
