This ad for Buckingham cigarettes still survives on the side of a building on Davenport Rd despite the fact that advertising for cigarettes has disappeared here. Stores are not even allowed to display the cigarette packages and must keep them out of sight. It is always fun to find one of these 'ghost signs' however.

I never smoked and I only have the vaguest recollection of this brand.
It's so cool you still can find many ghost signs around your city.
Wouldn't they be a nice theme for a series? ;-)
Cool image!
Ghost signs are the neatest things!
Interesting that this still survives!
Wonder if someone will tag it with a health warning?!
I love ghost signs. Great capture!

Cigarettes: no! Ghost signs: yes!
So, I think we have established my traditional tastes in art and your modern tastes. I am a vaguely knowledgeable amateur. Is this your profession?
This is great! Love the faded sign and the weathered wooden fence.
I admit, I am not familiar with this brand, but who cares, it is a great ghost sign!
i wonder how long these signs will hang on before man eradicates them.
Me? I have to travel quite a ways to see some old and vintage signs.
Yeah, I have not seen them advertised in billboards.
I didn't know that cigarette ads are banned here. Nice to learn something! I like these old ghost signs, I'm glad they let this one live on.
I like the ghost sign and also like that cigarette advertising is banned as well as the sight of cigarette packages...
A good find.
Irony, irony, irony! Buckingham must have been (or still is) a Canadian brand. Your rules and regulations are tougher than ours. Sort of funny, though, 'cause I think our government still subsidizes tobacco production. :-)
Love those old ads! Another piece of Irony is the fact that the building now houses a Subway shop.
I LOVE all that old red brick
Love ghost signs, they are such a glimpse into history, great building, seems somewhat ruined with Subway's advertising sadly

I like the Buckingham sign a heck of a lot more than the Subway sign. It has so much more character and personality. genie
Very cool sign.
Signs
These ghost signs are a nice reminder of simpler times.
Awesome old sign.
You can tell it's old advertising because of the "banned" subject! Good catch!
Yes I also love ghost signs. Great find.
I love these fading signs and this is a brand I've never heard of.
The ghost signs are so much more effective and elegant than todays efforts... and this is a classic example!
Oh great find Red, it's so great when you come across one of these old signs and imagine what the times were like when it was for real!
btw. no i didn't get any new make up, I'm so boring when it comes to trying out new colours, I tend to stick to the same shade all the time. Aimee on the other hand went to town!!
great shot. Out with the old- unhealthy(ciggies)...in with the new- healthy(subway)...something like that? Have a nice week.=)
Love these old painted signs from more than half a century ago. This is a great one. Also interesting that the old building has been reborn as a Subway sandwich shop. Thanks for visiting my blog and making a comment.
It's great that the past still gets to lurk about.
I agree about finding ghost signs, they do hark back to different times. No better demonstrated than by cigarette ads... I've never smoked either.
Interesting sign!
Sounds great. Pick out the right Oakley sunglasses at http://www.wantsunglasses.net/.
