Another Islington Mural

This may be my favourite of the murals that I saw in the tour of the Islington Murals of a few weeks ago. Titled "Honouring Islington's Volunteer Fire Brigade" and painted by John Kuna (he did most of the murals) in 2007, this one shows some of the activities the firemen performed for the community when not fighting fires. In winter they would dam the Mimico Creek (which I showed last week) and create a skating rink complete with a snack bar to feed the happy skaters. You can see the Mongomery's Inn in the background. I love the rich colours in this one and since it is supposed to be +33˚C here today it's nice to see some snow!

I've visited your blog for over two years (am I right?) and I'm always amazed with the variety of great works around the city!

Yes, I've noticed it has been a while your shots show us only beautiful sunny days... ;-)

The refreshment shop looks tridimentional. Fantastic!

I almost posted this one (after checking to confirm which one(s) you had already done) for the same reasons! I love the way the boarded up window is incorporated - hard to see, isn't it?!

Very, very nice - it has a 50's feel about it, doesn't it.

I really like this one! That old timey firetruck and the kids playing in the snow is cute and quaint!

Love it Pat, a really dynamic mural and as you say, good to look at when the weather is steaming hot!

I can see why this would be a favorite of yours, RedPat. The mural has a lot going on without being overly busy. It has a wonderful sense of nostalgia about it.

At first glance I thought the Refreshment kiosk was actually in front of the mural, not part of it!

Wow! A very nice one it is too!

Very cool. Historical and sweetly nostalgic. That refreshment stand is so realistic I had to look twice to be sure it was part of the mural. Kuna really knows how to use the available space when creating the composition. Those long winter shadows are really lovely too. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural, Pat.
