Queen's Park Detail

This is a detail shot of some of the carvings to be found on the Queen's Park building which I showed you yesterday. The craftsmanship is fabulous and I also like how you can see the variations in the pink sandstone used to construct the building. There are quirky carvings like this all over the whole structure!

Ah, yes, Love this. We have similar, but different, public buildings carved from sandstone here in Sydney. Not pink sandstone though, that I recall. This is very pretty, especially the 'waves'.

I'm very fond of sandstone buildings - we have a few cathedrals like this. The lion looks to be gagged!

I love details like this. Isn't it brilliant how the architect/builders blend in smooth and flat surfaces, roughly cut natural surfaces, and intricately carved and cast details?

I just adore these. The pink sandstone is so stunning and the carvings bring out so much of the carvers personalities. Wonder what they were thinking when they covered the mouth.
