Spiral Conversion
This is yet another conversion of an old industrial building into lofts and studios. I showed you a pic of this place taken from across the railway tracks last September (here) and I just finally got around to checking it out close-up only to find a huge gate blocking entrance to the complex. So I took this by pushing the camera through the rungs of the gate. It seems as if everyone has a roof deck and the courtyard is also nicely landscaped. It's not good to see the old industries leaving for the suburbs or beyond but I am glad the wonderful old buildings are being saved!

Somehow, I missed the first time around - don't you hate it when these new condos have great features, then block the public from seeing them up close?!
I agree that re-purposing these old buildings is a wonderful thing in most cases. You did a great job through the rungs to get this photo! It would be interesting to see the interior of these units, but I certainly do like those circular stairs leading to the roof!
Something so gorgeous about black against brick. While it is sad it is gated, I can appreciate the need.

Yes I like the idea of converting unused industrial space to living accommodation. But like you have mixed feelings about the reasons it is possible.
I agree with you about saving these old buildings. It seems a good idea to give them a new use. There is a condo building I saw here somewhere that has that same type of spiral stairs to the roof. I can't remember where I saw that.
I haven't decided about those spiral stairs. Have you? Surely the original architects of the building would be shocked.
Looks like there is a garden up top.
I liked it in September, and like it even better close up!
This barely looks like it belongs in Toronto.
I like this much better than those all-glass towers.
They have done a great looking job with this particular conversion.
I love what they've done with this conversion Pat, a roof deck would be good, a bit of green planting above is always good for the environment!
I love it!
Yes, I could live here.....tasteful conversions indeed. Have a good week Red Pat..
Love those stairs to the roof top. Really nice buildings.
