The Red Cliffs Of Prince Edward Island

I just returned last night from a visit to Prince Edward Island (PEI) which is an island in the Gulf of St Lawrence and is the smallest province in Canada in both size and population. PEI is famous for its red soil, red sandstone cliffs, incredible beaches and sand dunes but most of all for being the setting for "Anne Of Green Gables" the wonderful childhood book by Lucy Maud Montgomery.  It is also famous for mussels and lobster dinners which are freshly harvested by the local fishermen and are sooo tasty!  I took this shot of cliffs on the property of friends who have a gorgeous seaside home looking out over the Northhumberland Strait.

PEI is one of those destinations that is pretty much as advertised, picturesque, slow-paced, red ...

Never been there, but would love to go!

( Too bad about the tugs though, or the lack of them! :( )

Fantastic composition...those red sandstone cliffs are very impressive. I do believe I have a friend from that area - he lives here during the winter but spends the summers up there and he loves it. He's always commenting on how lousy the fish tastes down here! :-)

Just gorgeous, but I keep thinking, if you went hiking were your shoes just covered in this color dust? And seriously mussel and lobster dinners YUM!

Welcome back RedPat. The cliffs are such a contrast to the blue sky and sea in this great shot, would love to visit PEI one day.

My mother's family all come from PEI. Many of my relatives still reside there. Never been. Gotta do it.

What a wonderful image Pat, the curve of the water going off into the distance looks so good. Those red cliffs could almost be here in Australia.

Wow! I have never heard of the red cliffs of PEI. It looks like the red clay we have in my home state, Oklahoma. Very neat!

Amazing colour! As Grace says, it's very much like the rock formations we have here in Australia.

Boy, this certainly is red. It reminds me of the red dirt in my mothers home state of Alabama.

I do love that red up against the blue of the ocean.
