Another of the John Kuna murals in the Islington neighbourhood, this one is called "Ontario Gothic" and although it is based on a photo from the 1900s it is meant to be a parody of "American Gothic" by Grant Wood. Painted in 2011, it shows William Appleby and his sister Mabel standing in front of the family farmhouse which was a Gothic Revival cottage style.

Yet another mural that just leaps out, amazing!
How fun. It appears to be quite a large mural too
This guy is Amazing!
It is very well done, looks almost like a photo.
Now, THIS is perfect. Kuna is very talented.
Oh this is so neat to see. I went to Eldon, Iowa and saw the house in the original American Gothic. I wish I knew how to put a link to it in the comments so that you can see it. I don't know if this will work...

It's beautifully done Pat, but I didn't think Gothic when I saw it. You do have some wonderful murals around Toronto, did you ever think of printing a coffee table book of photos 'Murals of Toronto' seriously you should.
This is very beautiful!

A great idea! It's such a lifelike painting too. Neat find.
This is a beautifully done mural and the resemblence to American Gothic is certainly there. Thinking about it, one could probably paint a "gothic" scene in the mode of Grant Woods that would come from almost any country. Change the house behind and clothes on the two people and it could be a scene from anywhere.
Those clothes don't look exactly comfortable!
Very nice mural, though.
This is fantastic. Great parody! I can't believe all the wonderful murals you have in Toronto!
Another great mural. This style always makes me think of the start of The Rocky Horror Show!
Amazing mural to have been painted on red brick.
K
Interesting mural.
Look at the tiny waist on that woman!!!
This is quite a find. Kuna is an incredible artist. Your comments make me wonder how many works have been inspired by American Gothic since its unveiling.
There's lots of detail in this one.
Well done! The artist is so talented!
Impressive, creative and very well done!
You have wonderful murals in your city. This one is no exception!
