Church On a Hill

This is Grace Church On-The-Hill, an Anglican church found in the Forest Hill neighbourhood. The Gothic building was designed by architect Eden Smith who designed many places in the city including many of the homes in Wychwood Park. This church was built in 1913 and is now heritage designated. Once again the doors were all locked but it is famous for the stained glass so I will try to get inside one day.

It's a beauty Pat, you can just see that the big front window will be amazing from inside.

I love to explore old churches. No matter where in the world I am, I will always go inside churches (and light a candle if it's a Catholic Church with candles.)

I hate that so often in this country, churches are locked. That's something that has changed over my lifetime. They used to be open all the time. I guess they have to worry about vandalism, etc. but it just seems wrong to find church doors locked.

Lovely shot. Driven by it many times but never stopped. It is a shame that it is so hard to get inside.

The architecture is fantastic and the building will look even nicer when the vine covers more parts of the walls.

Perfect to look at on a Sunday morning. Love the architecture. Like the dog and human on the right, too!

So funny, to verify, I had to click on about 5 pictures of beer and type a number and click the "I'm not a robot box." That should be a requirement to leave a bar on Saturday night for all who are driving. LOL!

This is such an impressive structure. I want to follow you when you get inside! We don't have these kinds of church buildings in Florida!

Beautiful church. I am wondering what those great things by the sidewalk are?

It sits very attractively on its little hill, almost castle-like!

A handsome building and I will Google Wychwood Park to see what else I can find out about Eden Smith.

A grand old building, it's a shame churches have to lock the door during the week...
