Beatty Ghost Sign
I've seen bits of this sign for years but on the other side of that new fence there are railway tracks and there were lines of scrub and bushes growing all along so you couldn't see the whole thing. Just recently work has been done that included the new fence, gravel work and the cutting down of the vegetation so the sign is now visible. Beatty Electric Washers had a factory in Fergus Ontario and I think this could have been the back wall of an office.
This was the location just several weeks ago of a derailment that fortunately caused no damage to any of the buildings around the tracks and caused no dangerous substances to leak. This is the middle of the city so it could have been horrendous.

I wonder what caused the derailment. That is such a scary thought in the middle of the city. I love the sign and the history that goes with it.
I'm glad that derailment was as safe as it seemed. I've seen some of those ghost signs around Arizona too.

Reminds me of a sign I pass frequently on my bike advertising "brand new" apartments. :-)

Hi RedPat, you asked about the car from which I took the shot of the Detour sign. That is my wife's British roadster. It is a 1956 MGA which has a 1600 cc motor connected to a four speed manual transmission. The motor produces all of 68 horsepower, but the car is light so the manufacturer back in 1956 said it would achieve a true 100 miles per hour. I would not know about that as I have only had it up to about 75 mph, and was only at that speed briefly.
I wonder how many ghost signs are hidden by vegetation Pat, this was a super disclosure! Dreadful about the derailment but so good that noone was seriously hurt.

With this nice view of the ghost sign I wonder if someone might touch it up a bit? That would be great if they did.
How neat that the Ghost sign is now visable behind that fence and that no horrible damage was done from the derailment.
