Decidedly Deco
We had our annual Doors Open event a week ago and my first stop was the Junction Brewery which is located in this wonderful Art Deco building in the Junction neighbourhood. This building was built in 1933 as a garbage incinerator for the city. Trucks would drive right in and dump their load into great pits where the garbage would be burned with the smoke and gases escaping through huge 200 and 150 ft tall chimneys. The chimneys are gone and the building has been totally renovated and renewed and now has heritage protection. Part of it is the brewery and part, including the top floor, is now an event space. Fabulous isn't it?

Hello,
It is a nice looking brewery. I am sure the event space is popular.
Wishing you a happy day!
...was a fancy garbage incinerator!
A beautiful building.
That is a great looking building. I do love the Art Deco style. I'm not sure why but I think I'm drawn to it in some way. Even when I was a kid, my favorite buildings were always Art Deco.
From a garbage incinerator to a brewery... interesting makeover.
I'd love to see the inside of this beautiful brewery. Interesting history but renewed as something new and given protection. I would have a beer in celebration of that. A lovely story!
What a great story and a nice new life for the building. I'll bet it's a great event space and a cool brewery.
Absolutely fabulous Pat 😉
The building has fun round windows.
