A Place For Everything

Spotted in Yorkville during the exotic car show this Porsche has solved the problem of where to put the extra luggage.

A Longlasting Spot

Hemingway's has been on Cumberland in the Yorkville neighbourhood for over 39 years and with lots of patio seating and a diverse menu it will be around for many more years. The owners were from New Zealand and that is the reason for the New Zealand flags.

Ready For James

There was a car show in the Yorkville neighbourhood last week and these Aston Martins were all lined up and behind ropes. Check out the license plate on that front one.

Going For A Swim

This creature was spotted swimming around the corner of a garage. Even though it is a large one it looks like a friendly beast. Once again there was no artist signature.

An Old Favourite

I have shown this fountain in the Annex neighbourhood several times over the years but not since 2019 so I thought it was time to see it again. It was designed by architect Uno Prii and sits in front of one of his many unique apartment buildings.

Name That Bird

I am no bird expert so am posting this sweet bird in hopes that someone will ID it for me. I think it is a warbler (Magnolia?) but I'm not sure. It was spotted poking around in the grass along the Humber River.

Don't Forget

While wandering along the trail by the Humber River I kept seeing wonderful patches of Forget-me-nots sometimes sprinkled with what I think are Buttercups. The blue of the tiny flowers is so beautiful.

Pink Cascade

This lovely bush covered in pink blossoms was spotted along Davenport Rd. I have no idea what kind of shrub it is but loved the cascade of pink.

Beer And Bread

This sign was spotted along Bloor St W and a bit of research revealed that it is indeed a craft brewery that also sells sourdough bread which is baked in house. Both the beer and the bread are said to be good.

Green

I was walking along the trail that runs beside the Humber River and saw this view across the river of a golf course. There are two courses over there right beside each other, one private and the other owned by the city so I'm not sure which on this is. Everything looked so green and luscious.

Butterflies

I have not seen many butterflies yet this year but know that they are on the way. Those are fierce looking caterpillars looking up at them but unfortunately there seem to always be cars parked in front of them. I could find no artist signature on this one.

Construction Continues

This is an update shot of the construction on the Honest Ed's site showing just some of the towers that will be there when it is all finished. I was in the laneway behind the buildings across the road from the site so you can see how they will tower over the neighbourhood when finished. Some of the towers look as if they have reached their end height.

Sleepy Ducks

Sometimes you just have to have a wee nap to help you get through the rest of the day. These two Mallards seemed to be sound asleep but I'm guessing they were still aware of their surroundings.

Stormy Clouds

I was out for a walk and it was sunny when I left but as I passed by Christie Pits park the clouds were looking scary. The baseball diamond had the mound and home plate covered but I had no rain gear with me. It never did rain!

Relaxing At The Park

Some people play at the park while others like to sit and relax. This young man had found the tallest perch in the park to use while he played on his phone. Those houses are actually across the road from the park.

Ransack

This shop with the unusual name is found on Bloor St W. The shot was taken early on a Sunday morning but I imagine when it is open all those old suitcases would be out front. The shop is full of all kinds of great vintage things and apparently they do a lot of prop rentals for the film industry which is quite busy in the city.

Fun At The Park

Even if there is no one else around at the park if you have a soccer ball you can still have fun. This boy was having a grand time chasing the ball around on his own.

Bird Lady

When I spotted this mural on the side of a garage I had to pull over. I was surprised to find no artist name on it which is a shame since it is so well done.

Royal Reflections

I was trying to take a shot of the hat shop window done up for the Royal Jubilee but there was so much reflection that it was hard to make out the hats. And then one of our red buses with white stripe accents went by and added some pizazz so here it is.

Hard At Work

I have two large pots of chives on my deck and they have been flowering for a few weeks now. The Bumble Bees seem to really love the flowers and spend hours going back and forth between the chives and the rosemary. These are large bees being almost an inch long.

An Older Neighbourhood

This shot is from a neighbourhood older than the one in yesterday's post and you can easily see the difference in the tree canopy. It is a lot cooler in these areas in the heat of summer. The big wind storm of 2 weeks ago did some pruning but Toronto escaped the severe damage that other areas of the province received.

A Midtown Road

When looking for shots for the June theme of 'The Road' I started looking around town as I traveled about. This is a street typical of a midtown street where the houses are not as old as the ones downtown and the tree canopy is also younger. Years from now this will look as green as some of the older neighbourhoods do now.

Terra Again

This is a shot of the same garage door as yesterday's post but taken from the other side of the doorway so that you can see the two men playing dominos. I didn't want to leave them out. Once again the artist is Elicser.

More Murals Found

As I looked along the building in yesterday's post I discovered another small door as well as this large shipping door all beautifully decorated by the artist Elicser. It turns out that the doors all belong to Terra Nova which is a retirement home. The murals are all quite suitable for that don't you think. One more shot tomorrow.

Walking

I spotted this door with the mural of a man with a walker and immediately pulled over for a shot just when this young man walked by.  Perfect, I thought. I'll show you a bit more of where this mural was tomorrow. The artist for this is Elicser.

Art At The Voting Station

We had our provincial elections last Thursday and the voting stations were in a variety of auditoriums and assorted spaces. When I voted this wonderful art piece by a First Nation artist was adorning one of the walls along the hall leading to the voting area. I really like it and there was a signature on it but I could not make it out.

A Sneak Attack?

This Mallard was so busy grooming itself that it didn't notice the large turtle which was slowly moving towards it. A sneak attack? Or just heading for a nicer position? I didn't stay around to see the finale.

A Fine Old House

This Second Empire style home was built in 1879 and has been totally restored and retrofitted  to be very energy efficient. The whole place had been painted white but luckily the bricks have now been restored to their former glory. It is now owned by U of Toronto but I don't know what it is used for. There are many older homes surrounding the downtown campus that are owned by the university.

Hard To Miss

This brightly painted Chevy truck was spotted in a few places around the neighbourhood a week ago and then disappeared. I never did find out who it belongs to. I'm not sure what year it is but would guess sometime in the 50s.

June Theme: The Road

The June theme for the City Daily Photo Blog community is "The Road" and for this one I offer a shot of a laneway which is a road that runs between/behind roads. You all know how I love to wander along laneways and this one which runs down a fairly steep hill is always fascinating to me. You never know what you might discover among the collection of various garage styles and outbuildings. And it is always fun to take a peek at the back gardens of homes. All of those wires overhead are phone lines and internet provider lines.
