Remembering Heroes

There was a very large group of Irish who fought with the Mexicans in the Mexican-American War. So many that they formed their own battalion.  And there was a really large group of Mexicans in costume who marched in the St Patrick's Day parade as a tribute and remembrance.

Yes, Irish Americans who effectively switched sides. A not often mentioned aspect of a war often overlooked.

The St. Patrick's Day parade in San Antonio, TX has a mix of Irish and Mexican cultures. The Irish went to many places when they left Ireland during the potato famine. Your photo points to an interesting bit of history.

How unique, and then I remember that the town just to the north of us, Almonte, is named after a Mexican general.
