The police can leave their bikes anywhere with little chance of them being stolen I think. They are probably now stored away for winter but are a common sight the rest of the year.

My bike shop friend says that supplying police with bikes has greatly improved urban policing. Police can ride right up to a trouble maker without them realizing the police have arrived, and they have more positive contact with the citizens than in patrol cars.

This is a great idea. I don't think they are doing it here.
I would hope the police bikes are safe from thieves.
