During the intermission at Cirque Du Soleil this giant screen came down and hid the stage area a bit but those dark areas were not opaque so you could see movement behind as they set up for the next acts. The screen resembled the Mexican paper cutouts called papel picado that are found for decoration at festive times of the year.

What great detail in your photo showing the Mexican village scene. Google no longer sends me the photo sites I normally look at every day. If I miss a comment, I am sorry about that.
That's a beautiful way to cover the staging area. It does look like those festive paper cutouts.
