Crooks
I was wandering down an Annex area laneway this morning and came across this guy lurking in a corner. I recognized him, but for the life of me I can't remember the location of the old Crooks restaurant where he lurked outside. I'm glad someone has given him a perfect home!

Is an Annex area laneway like an alley? If so, I probably wouldn't like to meet this guy in a dark alley at night! Right? Very realistic, and "lurking" is the right description!
Yes Lowell we call, what you call an alley, a laneway.
It's amazing how many interesting things you thing just walking around your city! ;-)
Nice find! he deserves saving! Also,he looks like one of the old I Spy cartoon characters.
OOOOOH! That would be a shock to come upon!
Very funny. Probably at risk of being shot. Oh, that's right, Canadians aren't gun nuts like Americans.
Thank you for commenting on my blog. Nice to hear that Workum is known 'all over the world' ;-)

This is wonderful! - It is always great to know that fun items like this find second homes.
I think it is perfect for a laneway!
Could give you a fright on a dark, moonless night...
That is pretty funny. I have never been at a restaurant like Crooks. (A pampered life . . . )
What a great find.
Yes, a perfect spot... Hahaha...
He does look VERY 'lurky'... or maybe he is just camera shy?!
how random?
I could see bumping into him at night and having a heart attack.
Oh, this is too funny!
That might be scary if you hadn't recognized him ;>)
Fun, I always am impressed with people who pick up these type of objects. Sometimes here it is high school senior pranks.
Always nice to run into an old friend you have not seen in a while!
Very apt! Could give someone a fright on a dark night!
Hi Red Pat, Great piece of sculpture (?) Can't help wondering what the inside of the restaurant was like! A bit of a rip off perhaps? !! Have a nice weekend.
What a great find Red, he'd give you a bit of a fright if you came cross hi at night yeh!!
Fantastic! Love it.
Crooks was on Front Street. Was a favourite hangout for Toronto Sun employees. The owners were Dan Ackroyd and his business partner and ex-cop with a name that is a homonym for Crooks.
Crooks was down on Front Street, next to Le Papillon, and that statue was outside in the small parking area out front. It was a great restaurant/bar and Dan Aykroyd and Richard Crooks were the owners and often there. It was a favourite place for actors and stage crew from Young People's Theatre, Toronto Free Theatre, and in fact all the theatre companies working down in that district. They played great music, it was full of memorabilia and signage and the food was great and affordable.
I remember going to Crooks and meeting Dan Aykrod... Good food.... Cold beer... Lots of great memories from the mid 80's..
Just had a Seniors Moment and trying to remember name of restaurant on Front, so very glad this post was here. OMG ... the chicken was to die for. We were there a lot and loved it. Ran into Dan once there. So as of now in 2020 is that fella still lurking in a laneway somewhere .... where exactly .. would love to go get a picture to remind me of Crooks.
Thanks to OP for posting!!
Where exactly is this if you don't mind me asking. I would like to find out if it is still there. Thanks in advance.
