Doors Of Government

This lovely door and surrounding facade belongs to one of the Ontario government buildings oat Queen's Park. I love all the carving and details that were used in older times - such wonderful craftsmanship!

It looks solid and official, just the way a government building should look.

I agree with you and wonder why we can't do these kinds of things today...we've become so preoccupied with utilitarianism that art for art's sake is a forgotten concept. But it's buildings like this that bring character and resonance and illustrates the values of beauty and permanence to a society awash in hedonism, nihilism and immediacy - damn the consequences.

Here ends the lecture! :-)

It does look very stately.

This is wonderful, RedPat. Yale University has a lot of Gothic architecture like this.

Nowadays city councils would probably be accused of wasteful spending!

Love the arch above No.23 Pat, buildings were truly built to last in times long ago..we could learn something from them.
