Canadian Bike History
I found this wonderful bike mural in the Weston neighbourhood of Toronto showing cyclists and walkers going along the trail beside the Humber River which runs all the way through the west end of the city. Weston was the home of the CCM (Canada Cycle& Motor Co Ltd) plant from 1917 until the firm's bankruptcy in 1983 and was where probably most of the bikes ridden in Canada up until then were produced. CCM together with the nearby Kodak plant was one of the major employers in the northwest part of the city and the closure of both of these companies has been a hardship for the area.

That's two companies that should never have gone under. Too bad. Wonderful mural.
Last night I watched a travel program about Toronto. I had no idea that there were now these crazy walking tours on the outside of the CN Tower. You won't catch me doing that one. The show also went to the St. Lawrence Market, Cabbage Town, Riverdale Farm, China Town, and the Soma Chocolate Shop along with a few other places I can't remember now. I enjoyed it.
I remember when most of the bicycles I'd see were CCM.
And Kodak was THE name in photography for many, many years.
I guess the time came when Canadian-made bikes couldn't compete in price, and of course digital technology sounded the death knell for Kodak and its iconic "Kodachrome"!

Great post! I knew Kodak had gone under but didn't realize CCM had.
Because CCM also manufactured tricycles, I would say that the kid riding one in the background is also a tribute to the company.
What a great mural, shows the range of bikes the company must have made, everything from trikes to racers. Shame they had to close. Cycling is very popular over here at the moment due to Olympic success and the Tour de France visiting Yorkshire next year.
