Deco Bank

The Bank of Nova Scotia building on Bay St in the financial district is a deco delight. It was designed in 1929 but construction didn't take place until after WWII although the same Art Deco features were kept from the original design. The exterior of the building has quite a collection of these bas-reliefs by German artist Fred Winkler which all seem to be based on Greek mythology. I'm not sure what these 2 refer to at all.

Have always enjoyed mythology, either on pages or like this in stone.

Those are handsome reliefs.

I am surprised that they retained the Art Deco style if they delayed construction so long. That is one of my favorite styles.

Nice find Pat. I'm surprised at the number of buildings in T.O. that have stylish design similar to this.

That is gorgeous detail!

I'll be passing through the Big Smoke on Christmas Eve... I'll have to keep an eye out for this in between modes of transport...

You don't see buildings like that anymore. Very nice.

These are very fine examples (but I'm no good at Greek mythology...)
