Notre Dame

This is a shot of the Notre Dame in Paris, taken when I was there in mid September, showing the east facade of the church with the 15 m long flying buttresses around the apse, as well as the spire. The pic was taken in the Square Jean XXIII with the lovely Fountain of the Virgin in the foreground. This was a peaceful spot in contrast to the west facade of the church and the main entrance which was teeming with tourists jostling in lines to get in.
Taking part in Inspired Sunday. Click here to see more religious buildings.

This is my favorite view of the church, this one and the one from the bridge looking in this direction.

My fav view also Pat, although the massive arched doorways at the front are mega impressive, just a shame about the millions of tourists :)

Fantastic!
«Louis» knows this spot well. He lived in Paris for a time, just across the river on the right bank on rue Saint-Antoine. He would often walk over to Île-de-la-Cité and attend the choral mass at 11:00 at Nôtre-Dame.

On the parvis in front of the church is a round piece of brass that marks the point in France from which all distances are measured. This dates back to Napoléan Bonaparte. We think of Bonaparte as being the warrior who wrecked so much havoc across Europe, but he also did much to begin the modernization of France.

«Louis» posted a church from the 19th century in the Victorian village of Ferndale, California.

Great shot, and a miracle to only have two tourists in shot :-)

Smashing shot - looks very fairy-tale, somehow - almost Disney-like.

Beautiful! I must have missed something - didn't realize you'd gone to Paris as well as England!
