Tough Birds

You can see yesterday's Yellow-bellied Sapsucker down towards the bottom of this pic with a Pileated Woodpecker working away above him. This sculpture is found in front of the south building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and has been there since 1997. The 30 metre high steel column has many holes presumably as a result of the work of the birds. The artists for this piece are Fastwurms, aka Kim Kozzi & Dai Skuze.  There is a lot of construction in this area and I took the pic a while ago so hopefully it is still there!

Pileated Woodpecker, I saw the real deal, a live one, yesterday on my hike. Passed right by him on the ground about 30 feet away. It was only when I heard him hammering away on a fallen tree did I know he was there. I watched, then got my camera out, went to set up bracing against a tree to steady the camera and...fttt, he was off. Same story nearly every time.

It is good to know that once in awhile I am right about something! Love the sculpture - those birds are very well done!

Now you got me laughing. You fooled a lot of people with yesterday's photo.

Interesting sculpture with those two rare birds.

Reminds me of the woodpecker I found pecking on the siding of my house one day when I came home for lunch. :-)

Amazing artists at work in your wonderful city!

More public art. Between murals and sculpture, there seems to be artwork on every street in Toronto.
