St Francis Church Interior

I showed you the exterior of St Francis Roman Catholic  Church in May last year (HERE) and I finally got inside during the Doors Open event here in the city a couple of weeks ago. The Church was built in  1915 and has been renovated a few times especially in the 1970s when so many changes took place in Catholic churches everywhere including great changes in the style and placement of the altars.  I took this pic from up in the organ loft and will show you a couple of detail shots over the next couple of days.

The church I grew up in had hanging lights just like these.

This is very beautiful. Our churches around here are very, very plain. Nothing like this.

It's very nice and I see the altar has been pulled away from the wall to the center of the chancel.

The sky blue vaulting is particularly striking.

That's a fine looking church. It's all about the light, and the got that right in the Middle Ages.
