A 60s Church

This is Saint John Bosco Roman Catholic Church which was built in 1961 to serve a predominately Italian congregation but as the years passed the neighbourhood has changed and the main group served is now Portuguese with a couple of Italian & English masses. I like its style and it looks as if there is some major stained glass but yet again the doors were all locked!

When I was a little kid, church doors were always open. I guess we live in a different world today.

Its hard to imagine it being that old. Great structure.

It would be good to see the windows from the inside Pat.. the locked door thing happens here also, it's a shame when churches don't feel confident to leave doors open these days.

It looks quite modern.

Definitely 60s! Bet they had hootenannies back in its day.

It very unlike Roman churches in Florida. But I do like the wide doors and steps - they allow large groups of people to enter and ten leave quickly after the service.

Hmmmm, not a fan of these "younger" churches...

Very neat and tidy looking!

Clean lines. (This is off topic, but Toronto's dead raccoon story made its way down here. I love a city with a collective sense of humor.)

It is interesting how a demographic change happens through the years.

Looks like a Catholic church near here, perhaps they shared the blue prints. Tom The Backroads Traveller

It does look dated.

I would love to see the windows seen from the inside. What a shame the doors were locked.

It does have that 60's look of modernism.

The lines are so clean and exact. What a pity it's not open.

That does have the 60s written all over it. Maybe because I spent the 60s dealing with nasty stuff like the Cold War, Presidential assassinations, civil rights strife and Vietnam protests, I don't have very good memories about most of the 60s.
