Ghost Sign

This pic is from my archives - not sure why I never posted it but I recently heard that the sign has been restored and so I am posting it now and will head down to get a pic of the refreshed version. This is yet another building that housed artist studios and offered reasonable rents for them. It and the whole street around it are in the midst of gentrification and so the artists are once more on the move. There are very few places left for cheap studios in the city! The sign is for the T. A Lytle Co Ltd who were purveyors of "Pickles, Catsups, Sauces And Fountain Supplies". That is for soda fountains.

Very interesting view! This is something I've been thinking of doing around my downtown as well. The old ghost signs are truly great to see still showing through, even if it's faintly!

Oooh I love pickles and home made catsup. Not ketchup though. This is cool!

Looking at the blue casks there could still be a pickle factory there. Nice street view.

Fascinating! I really like these old signs and all that they represent, so thanks for the info. Too bad about the artists having to move, though.

Re your comment on Ocala: I don't much like any kind of storms; I really dislike storms that dump white stuff on the earth! :)

that's a lot of details for the Lytle Co. So is that company still around? I ask because the sign was restored.

That is a fine looking ghost sign. Companies like this one have mostly disappeared. Good to know the sign has been restored. You will have to post an updated photo.

Often wondered why the differences in spelling--ketchup, catsup. Maybe catsup is ketchup in Canadian. :-)

It's always a bit exciting to find old ghostsigns like this, this is brilliant discovery Pat. I'm not sure what catsup is though?

When we come across these old signs on the side of vintage buildings it is so exciting. This really is a fine find. So much writing has weathered the years. You did a great job of capturing it.
