After The Wind Storm

We had a very damaging wind storm a week ago which resulted in a huge number of fallen trees in the city. This large ancient oak tree was in the grounds of Spadina House and had a canopy that was probably about 50 ft in diameter. As you can see there is now nothing left standing. At least it was not near any hydro lines unlike in other areas of the city where the power was out for hours after the lines were pulled down by trees and branches. My power was out for about 5 hours.

I wanted to go out on that windy day to take some pictures but changed my mind when news stations were broadcasting warnings not go out unless you really had to.

We've had some recent storms here, too. The other night, for instance, sudden lightning and rain.
I have to wonder if this is the new normal?

That looks a lot like Florida after a hurricane! You must have had some very strong winds, probably gusts over 70 mph. Glad that you were not injured. I hate storms like that!

Wow, I never even heard anything about a storm up your way. Too bad about that old tree.

That certainly illustrates the damage a windstorm can do! Yikes.

Wow, the wind can be very powerful by evidence of that tree.

That must have been a bad storm!

That sounds very destructive, especially when it takes down old trees like this. Wind sure can be nasty.

Our cousins live in northern Wisconsin, and they are still cleaning up downed trees after two years. They live in the forest, and it was lucky their house was not damaged. Cities are losing thousands of trees every year. It is becoming a real crisis.

It was quite a windstorm. At one point in the night I heard enough of a crack that I thought the kitchen windows downstairs in my townhouse had broken. I went down to look, but they were find. A tree in the adjoining yard lost one of its larger branches.

It was shocking, wasn't it? The sheer power.

Yikes! Amazing what wind can do.

It is always sad to see old trees die like this. I'm sure that a lot of people enjoyed the shade and looks of it for generations.

Nasty. A very strong storm raced through Connecticut two days ago. Some small towns still have 90 percent of customers without power.
