Fire Station
This is the No 8 Hose Station found on College St near Kensington Market. The original station was built in 1878 and the tower added in 1899 but the originals were destroyed in a fire in 1972 set by an arsonist while the firemen were out at a fire. The station was rebuilt as an exact replica of the original. I posted a pic from a different angle with blue sky in 2013 (HERE).

Setting fire to a fire station is pretty darn gutsy...and stupid I might add. I'm glad they rebuilt it and preserved it's original integrity. It's an amazing building.
I love to see clock towers, and that is great one!
...now that's a BIG wow!
Nice hose tower.
It's a really tall tower.
That's fancy!
I hope they caught the arsonist. What a terrible thing to do. Glad the building and tower were reconstructed.
Fabulous! and TALL!
A beautiful building.
This view of the tower makes it appear even taller than your 2013 shot. I'd not have thought it was for drying hoses -- but, of course! Interesting post, and history.
Was it a firefighter, the arsonist?
Impressive building, and a statement.
It's a beautiful building.
A beautiful building and a tall tower !
I remember that story Pat.. really glad it was built in original style, these days fire stations don't have that character.
Wow, arsonist strike fire hall?! Crazy. Cool building!!
