#31 Mercer St
I found this wonderful Art Deco door in the downtown entertainment district which is an area of old factories and warehouses that were converted into a multitude of nightclubs and bars. Over the last few years as real estate prices soared downtown, and more people wanted to be there, condos have started to take over the district. That is the case for this building too as an application has been made to build a 49 storey mixed-use structure covering several addresses along Mercer St. The facades of the buildings are to be retained however!

Would you like to live in a condo in this building? I have rather mixed feelings about these downtown renovations - for myself, I mean. I think they're grand but am not sure they would be what I'd like.
Love the fact they left this old door intact!
I'm sure inside this building the project has a very interesting style too! ;-)
i love the font for the number and a great door find. it will be interesting to follow the development of this building and the others on the street and see how they relate to the facades. i am pleased that they are keeping some of the history of the area as it is difficult to slow the developers.
thank you for this find.
We have a Mercer Street here in Seattle as well... you found a great place there!
What a great idea glass bricks are, hope they keep the facade and replace the door with something befitting it's surroundings.
Cool find Red Pat!
Have a great weekend :)ysighr
Wonderful door.
The numbers are art deco, but the rest of the door doesn't make much of an effort. I am surprised that it would be saved in a major development.
All I could think of was thank goodness they are keeping the facades. Glass block, the hallmark of Deco is so divine, and worth preserving. Love those numbers too.
Art Deco is a great building style - I'm glad they see fit to preserve at least the facade of this building.
That really is very Deco. Love it.
Sounds like a very eclectic mix of buildings and uses for them in this downtown area Red, could be an interesting place to be if you like a bit of excitement.
Sixties alright.
Love the numbers!
I like buildings with BIG numbers that make me think they are not hiding but want to be found.
Very Deco! Love the '31'.
