Brick Church

This is the Church Of St Mary Magdalene Anglican Church which apparently follows an Anglo-Catholic convergence of Roman Catholic & Anglican influences. I'm not sure what that all means. The church was designed by Frank Darling and construction began in 1888 and finished in 1908 but there have been several renovations since then. It is suitable to show it this week since the parish is well known for excellence in sacred music particularly during Holy Week. It's hard to believe but I actually got inside this church - it was locked but some people inside opened up and invited me in. I'll show you the wonderful interior tomorrow.

i like the long, thin arched windows.

It's a striking structure. Some Anglicans (and Episcopalians in the US) feel the usual Anglican/Episcopalian traditions are not "Catholic" enough...so, those parishes use more "Roman" practices in their rituals and thus they attach to themselves the moniker, "Anglo-Catholic."

I always wonder if people who stress about things really think their God cares much one way or the other. :)

How nice that someone let you in! It's sad that so may churches are locked. Just saying.

From the appearance of the brick, I'd say it's had some additions and/or deletions over the years.

It reminds me much of my childhood brick library! Maybe it's the door's not really sure, because the library was a much more red to the brick. So happy you got to go inside!

Don't ask me. I don't know what that means either.

Doesn't it seem odd to you that so many churches are locked up? I used to think that churches are always open. Not so.
