Dust Bath

There has been some construction going on in a local park and sections of dusty earth have been left scattered about. The House Sparrows were taking full advantage of the sand to have a dust bath which helps them to maintain their plumage in top condition. There were actually about a dozen of these little guys fluttering around in the dirt.

I think that House Sparrows enjoy a good dust-bath more than any other birds I know - they do exactly the same here whenever the English climate allows for dust.

That would be so much fun to watch!

A dust bath may be their only choice during a drought. Good action shot.

I saw some house sparrows this morning lapping up the ice cream that had fallen to the sidewalk in front of an ice cream shop here.
