The Pacific Mall

I took a field trip from downtown Toronto on Sunday and went to the Pacific Mall which required crossing Steeles Ave from Toronto and entering the town of Markham (which has a HUGE Chinese population) on the north side of the street. The Pacific Mall is the largest Chinese indoor mall in North America and is totally unlike our usual malls and is instead just like the malls in Hong Kong with lots of small kiosks arranged along narrow aisles and large restaurants upstairs serving Dim Sum. This is one of the larger kiosks with a huge assortment of the most unusual products.

We have a similar market at Downsview, but it's not all Asian. I may have to check this place out. Looks interesting.

Like EGWow,I also keep saying I should go check this place out. I'd prefer to go with someone I knew who was Chinese who could translate and explain.

Violet - I had a friend with me who was originally from Hong Kong and it sure helped!

This is certainly a change of pace from what we have usually seen in your Toronto pictures.

I grew up in Scarborough not far from Markham. We'd go up there to crash parties, drink, hassle patrons at the local movie theatre when I was a teen back in the 70s. Sounds like a totally different place now...

Wow this looks like a pretty great place to be. Is there still a Bell store in Pacific Mall? My good mate told me he saw a killer deal for cellphones and I was looking for one anyway, figure why not give this a shot.
