On a cold early morning this week I spotted this very puffed-up Mockingbird sitting atop the fence around a local garden centre. I always think of them as sleek birds but obviously he was using every feather he had to keep warm and he also wasn't really skewered to the fence. He does look as if he has a few complaints though the way he is glaring at the camera!
Enlarge to see his wee face better.

This is wonderful, Pat! I did embiggen the picture and it really does look like that fence wire is going right up into its "stomach." And it doesn't look all that happy at a certain photographer. Cute shot!
I love it. He does not look like a happy camper on that uncomfortable fence. But I wish I could fluff up my feathers to keep warm on an unexpectedly chilly spring day.

Always amazes me how birds manage to perch on fences like this. Hope Mr Cold and Grumpy is singing in spring sunshine soon.
Poor thing! He's obviously very cold and that makes him look crabby!
Nice capture :)
Nice catch Red - we don't have these on the west coast.
He does look a bit grumpy!
Wow - he is glaring isn't he? Don't know that I have ever seen a mockingbird - thank you.
I thought maybe he had one too many worms for breakfast.
He certainly isn't enjoying his day, great shot.
ha, well I wouldn't take it too personally, he's probably not used to having the paparazzi about!
Ha ha still smiling Pat, he certainly doesn't look like a happy little vegemite!! Great catch.
Love the expression....looks like he's thinking "what are you looking at".
I see he's got his beady eye on you Red Pat!
I would be puffed up too, keeping warm today - what happened, Spring??
He looks very chilly!
It was very cold today, I'm not very happy either... :(
Nice spotting!
well he's certainly got his beady eye on you, Pat!
