Jarvis Street Baptist Church

This is the church where you find the entrance from yesterday's post. The Church was founded in 1818 but this bGothic Revival building wasn't constructed until 1875. The interior is quite unusual since it has an amphitheatre shape which fits perfectly into this corner site. I love the copper spire which rises 165 ft above the corner main entrance.

It's interesting the way it was designed to fit the corner location.

What a fine use of the corner site. The doors in your previous post are quite nice - «Louis» has long liked that trefoil design.

«Louis» posted one of the California missions founded in the 18th century by Franciscan monks.

This building is very similar in architecture to the churches of my youth...and most of them were built so as to wrap around the front focal point, including the balconies.

I'm sorry to have to say that now I want to see the amphitheatre. I can imagine it but I'm far too curious to stop at that! Lovely unusual church!
