Colville

A major show of more than 100 paintings by Canadian artist Alex Colville just closed at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and I am so glad I got there last week to see it even though the holiday crowds were out to see it too. Colville was one of Canada's most iconic artists who died at the age of 92 in 2013. There was a dark side to many of his works and in fact 4 of them were used in the movie "The Shining",  but he also loved animals and his wife who appears in many of his works and since they allowed photographs I will show you a couple of the light ones for the next 2 days.

I will look forward to seeing those. You made me think of the Magritte exhibit I saw in Chicago back in September when I was there. I love most of Magritte's work but I guess I didn't realize he had a bit of a dark side too.

I've always enjoyed his work when I've seen it here. The National Gallery has some of his work.

I am looking forward to what more you have. Now I sit here thinking of an evil animal. The squirrels at our bird feeder come to mind.

I believe it is going to be interesting. But I don't agree with the sentence in the picture..

I've not heard of Mr. Colville before so I am glad to get acquainted through your blog! Love this one, even though I think the quote is a bit of hyperbole! :) I'll look forward to your other pictures promised.

FYI: Be sure to check Ocala about 5 pm today. Heh, heh.

Big contrasts here. Hope the artist is right in the underlying text.

I like how the artist is a little wary with his comments. A less wary comment would apply to humans. A brilliant artist, though I have never seen his work as you have. What a great experience.

Great quote.

I don't know of him or his work. This first one has an interesting composition, with the very light child and very dark dog. I need to see more to understand him.
