Red Squirrel

This is a creature you don't see in the city very often. It is a North American Red Squirrel and isn't it sweet? They are tiny ones, bigger than a chipmunk but a lot smaller than our grey and black squirrels. This wee guy was spotted near a well-treed ravine so not too far from their preferred forest habitat.

Ever so cute, but the immigrant squirrels are killing off the local squirrels in Britain. I just have to remember if it is the reds or the greys. This is not a parable about Brexit.

Well done for snapping a photo before he scampered off!

This is exactly the kind of squirrel that used to frequent our yard when I was growing up in Illinois. One of them got so tame he used to come down and eat from our hands.

This is new to me. I would have guessed it was a chipmunk with a bushy tail. Cute little bugger!

Looks like a young red squirrel. Nice wildlife photo. We have gray squirrels around here. Seldom see any other kind.

How did you get so close? If my big lumbering self had tried to get this the critter would have run away.

It is surprising how they adapt to city living.

No red or black squirrels down here. Just gray squirrels. Many, many this year. And chipmunks. I don't think I ever had chipmunks in my yard before, but this year they are all over the place. Weird.
