New Use
At one time you could find little corner stores scattered all throughout the residential areas in the older parts of the city. Very few of these survive these days and you often see them converted into living spaces. This building near U of Toronto is being renovated and it is hard to tell if the old corner store on the ground floor will become a home or remain some type of commercial space. I really like what they have done upstairs so far. I'll keep an eye on this place.

I like what they've done so far too Pat, will be interesting to see if it will be a cafe underneath.. that happens quite a lot here. I quite fancy the idea of an apartment with my morning cuppa just downstairs 😀
Hope you can show us this again when it is completed
Have a great day!
Living in both Duluth and Minneapolis, Minnesota, in my youth, these corner stores are very familiar to me. They were wonderful places where you could buy penny candy and a variety of assorted goods. I'd guess most of those are gone now, too. I suppose that when this place is finished it will sell for $2-3 million buckaroos. :)
Same here, the corner shop is disappearing
Interesting building as it looks like a house built on top of a store making two separate buildings. The corner store is something from another era, and I do miss these places, but suspect cars have killed them.
It will be interesting to see how this turns out. It seems a bit sad that corner stores have all but disappeared. They were a very big part of my childhood.
A work in progress! There's one near my place that was once a store, and you can still see the sign faded into the brickwork. Mostly when they still survive as a store, it tends to be of the convenience store type.
I miss the corner stores.
I miss them too. You have a real eye and heart for the city, Pat
I loved having these nearby neighborhood grocery stores when I was growing up.
They seemed to draw crowds of people hanging out eating ice cream and drinking soda. The good old days. Have a happy day!
...corner stores are everywhere here!
When I was a kid, going to the corner store was a way of life. Glad to see they are evolving into something useful.
Thanks again, Pat! Very much!
Very well renovated, Pat.
There should be more neighbourhood corner stores...but they seem to be disappearing fast.
I can just imagine this is going to look really nice! Hope to see more of it!
Really! I would have thought that corner stores like this one would still be in great demand.
