This little Downy Woodpecker has figured out that it is easier to get at the food where it is sitting on the bottom of the holder. The woodpeckers seem to stay with us all winter and always find something to eat.

Hanging on there, despite the snow. It's really windy here today so I haven't noticed any birds on my wildly swinging feeders.

The Downy Woodpeckers are beautiful birds. It helps them to have a source of food to keep them warm in the winter months. Good shot of this acrobatic bird.
We love seeing the pretty Downy in our feeders too and we saw one out on the trail yesterday. Stay warm!
They must have a thick down under those feathers to keep them warm.

The suet is certainly a bonus for them during these intensely cold periods.
The birds plumb ate themselves silly these past 24 hours. Must have sensed the storm we had overnight and today.

Hello,:=) The Downy Woodpecker is one of my favourite Woodpeckers. The suet is a good source of nourishment in the cold winter months. They figure out the easiest way to eat the food.
I guess the bottom thaws quicker than the frozen north? Clever bird.
