Presses

I didn't go to many locations during this year's Doors Open but one highlight was visiting the Coach House Press which is located on bpNicholLane near the U of Toronto campus. It is housed in a quirky old building which is packed full of history and stories of the avant-garde. These 2 Heidelberg presses turn out 5,000 sheets an hour and we were given a demonstration of the operation.

I would find that fascinating.

I got to a few Doors Open locations.

These Heidelberg presses are most impressive. I have a friend who used to operate them, and they can be a bit touchy.

What a great tour that must have been. I love seeing different printing equipment.
When I was a little kid, there was a small print shop across the street from where I lived. I can still picture the guy who operated it printing on a very old fashioned printing press. I'd say he was lucky if he got 100 sheets per hour.

It's interesting seeing a machine like this. It always amazes me that someone came up with the idea of building the machine. Very impressive.
