Library Addition
This is the Wychwood Library which was one of 10 libraries in Toronto funded by the Carnegie Foundation. It was built in 1916 and had a round addition built in the 70s ( See HERE). The latter addition has been removed and this modern wing visible on the right was added which more than doubled the floor space in the building. The library was closed for 4 years to undergo construction. I'll have to go in one day for interior shots to check out the new and old features.

The modern addition does not flow into the old building. It is visually jarring. Perhaps the interior space works better as a library. Libraries are important so they need all the support we can give them.
I have to admit, I liked the older version better however, more space for the library has to be a good thing.
Love the mix of old and new!
I like the round addition better but the new addition has more room for books and other things.
They did well to preserve the original.

The pale stone was used so effectively. Lol at the 70s addition. 70s buildings are being demolished left, right and centre here.
An expansion of an old building is always difficult but do you adapt it to the old style or go for something new. In any case, it does not look very conspicuous and that is a plus in itself.
