I love these signs that the Historical Board installs around town since they give so much information that you would otherwise spend a lot of time searching for. This one found at Davenport Rd & Bathurst St gives a bit of the history of Davenport Rd which is one of the oldest roads in the city and was a trail used by First Nation people for many years before Toronto was founded.

Hello, the sign is pretty and it is nice they provide this historical information. Have a happy day and week ahead!
You live in such a rich city of culture and history!
Is there still a piece of road to see?
That is certainly an interesting bit of history. Reading it I can't even imagine the hardships people of that era had to endure in order to survive in the area.
Such a good idea Pat, I must admit these days if there is any info around what I'm taking a shot of, it gets snapped too!
Beautiful. I really enjoy discovering things like this too!
A pretty plaque. I remember growing up asking my mother how long it would take to see every historical plaque in the country. She said more time than people get in a lifetime, and I expect she was right!
I think it is a good idea to preserve the history of the Native Americans, even though they get no credit for the name of the road.
Well worth stopping to read this & indeed share it here in a photo!
My old stomping grounds!
...a lot classier than what I see here.
I agree that such signs are a great asset to a city. How else will people know what transpired at any given place or crossroads?
I read these when I encounter them. They provide so much historical information.
My SIGNS, SIGNS
There are historical markers across our state. My friend always says, "Something happened here once, and then everyone left." This sums up most of them.
A great way to learn what or who came before you. I always take a photo of the info because is easier than trying to remember it. Nice post!
Always enriching to know who has preceded you.
Interesting.
That's quite interesting!
The sign looks lovely with the brass & black background
I think they are great too. Some of the newer ones in London now have barcodes that enable you to upload more information on your smart phone
I love informational/historical marker signs too and always read and take pictures for further reference. Bbut I've never seen them explaining city streets and roads before...this is such a good idea. And what interesting history it is here.
